The other day, I posted about Tricia Goyer’s book, Balanced: Finding Center as a Work-at-Home Mom. You might want to read my post with information on purchasing this book and joining in the challenge. I’m joining in the challenge in hopes to find center as a work-at-home mom, work-out-of-the-home mom, and homeschool mom. Don and I work very closely together to make sure that everything that needs to get done gets done, but we could certainly use some streamlining. I hope this challenge will help us find that balance.
What I appreciate most about Tricia’s book is her honesty about this being an ongoing progress, and there really isn’t a total, perfect balance, unless you have the money to hire a lot of help. But realistically, even hiring help doesn’t make things perfect. For now, I am happy working with what I have.
Besides blogging here, I also manage a couple of blogs for the wonderful owners over at The Magic For Less and The Mouse For Less. These ladies have been a joy to work for/with, and it has enabled me to spend more time at home with my kids. I also work as a travel agent, specializing in Disney vacations. If you would like a quote for a vacation, you can request one here. One top of that, I recently went back to work part-time at a local hospital. During the training period, my hours were nearly full-time, so it was a struggle to keep everything going. Fortunately, Don and I have the same goals and work well together. The homeschooling has been able to continue, and the house hasn’t fallen apart, yet. So, what does this have to do with balance? Well, now that I am heading to my part-time schedule (next pay period, YAY!), we need to come up with a schedule and a game plan to make sure that we optimize our time together as a family and continue toward our long-range goals.
Tricia asks and answers some very thought-provoking questions in Chapter One to get us focused on what our goals are.
What do we want to achieve as a family?
What will matter five years from now—ten years from now?
What will mold our children into God-serving adults?
What will bring peace—not stress—to our home?
So, we’ll be talking together to find our answers to these questions and see where they lead us. Do you think these questions can help your family find balance?
This post is part of the Balanced challenge with Tricia Goyer—and you can join, too!
