Per FTC, I must tell you that I received a free download of the book below, free of charge.
I’ve reviewed a few Tricia Goyer books here on my blog, but none of them compare to her new book called, Balanced: Finding Center as a Work-at-Home Mom. I’m sure there are many of you out there in the same boat as I am… Working at home. Homeschooling. Trying to keep above water. I can also throw in adding a part time job outside of the home, too. Yes, it is a juggling act. Thank God, I have a wonderful husband who helps out a LOT! I couldn’t do it without him!
Back to the book… As you may know, Tricia Goyer had her children at a very early age. When she heard someone talk about writing books and working from home, she felt called to do the same. What she found, like most of us, is that it is very difficult to balance work, housework, and kids and still stay sane. It’s not really so much sane. It’s more like, am I doing enough? How do we stack up against other families?
Tricia Goyer addresses all of this from her perspective of having been there. She also stresses that her book is not a follow these steps and all will be rosy type of book. It is a book to guide in finding the right choices to give the most balance, but it revolves around giving it up to the Lord. Setting priorities for the family as a couple and cleaning out what doesn’t work or fit.
I like Tricia’s down-to-earth approach and her honesty as she says that she doesn’t have perfect balance either. I love how she says that if you look at the next family over that seems to have everything in place; they probably have help. When you think about it, that is probably true. When a family has other family members or close friends around to help out at times, it makes things a lot easier. Unfortunately, we don’t have this luxury. So, we need to try to clean out the clutter and set our priorities.
Tricia is hosting an 11-day challenge to find balance. You can find out more information about it here. I have signed up to join her challenge and hope to find a better balance for our family. One that puts more focus on God and family. I encourage you to join in, too. She is kicking off this challenge with a Facebook Party on Monday March 10, 2014. You may be thinking, “Why should I do this? I don’t work from home.” While Tricia wrote this from the perspective of and directed at work-at-home moms, I do believe there are a lot of good information for moms who work outside the home, too. I know there are many who technically work outside of the home but still work at home during the evenings, too. Admit it… How many of you have to work on projects or respond to email at home? I encourage you to check out the Balance Challenge and Facebook Party links above.
I’ll be posting here during the challenge (at least, I hope to be), so check back to follow our progress.
