Sight and Sound Theater

Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster

Don and I celebrated our 20th anniversary this September.  When planning what to do during our week vacation, we decided we wanted a “staycation” of sorts.  We live within a decent driving distance to Lancaster, PA and had never explored that area.  One of the things on our bucket list was the Sight & Sound Theatre in the Lancaster area.  We used to live near Branson, MO where the other Sight & Sound Theatre is located, but unfortunately, we moved before the theater opened.

While researching all that we wanted to see during our week off, we learned that not all the attractions are in Lancaster, per se.  They are in Lancaster County, so the attractions are a little spread out from each other.  This didn’t bother us, but it is something to keep in mind when planning a trip to the Lancaster area.

Back to the Sight & Sound Theatre…

Where the Bible Comes to Life

The Sight & Sound Theatre is billed as the place “Where the Bible comes to life!”  This is certainly a very true statement.  As was mentioned at the beginning of the show, they do take some “poetic” license in some events, but the play is mainly Biblically based.

The shows vary from season-to-season and depend on which theater you are visiting.  We saw the story of Joseph in Lancaster while Jonah is playing in Branson, MO.  Just after we saw Joseph, the Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster started making their change to their Miracle of Christmas play.  I would LOVE to see this play, but I have not figured out how to fit it into this year’s schedule.

Joseph at Sight and Sound Theater

Back to Joseph…  It was amazing how they brought the story of Joseph to life!  From the fields and dreams to pharaoh’s house and even into the jail.  It was amazing to see this story.  I wish I could show you pictures from the play, especially pictures of Joseph flying over the audience.  But alas, no photography was allowed.

While you can’t take photos, you can purchase the show on DVD to take home and watch again.  The prices weren’t that bad, and my children talked me into buying Moses.  They have watched Moses several times and are hoping I will buy Joseph (not to mention Jonah, Noah, and Ruth), as well.  If you are not able to travel to a Sight & Sound Theatre, purchasing the DVD online is a great way to see one of these great productions!

Prayer Offered

Sight & Sound Theatre takes sharing the Bible seriously, and the cast and crew stay around after the show to pray with you if you would like to stay.  I noticed that most of the audience left, but a few stayed around for prayer.

Samson Next Year

I mentioned that the shows change periodically.  From looking at the website, it appears that in 2016 the theater in Branson, MO will be showing Moses while the theater in Lancaster will be showing Samson.  I’ve always loved the story of Samson and hope I get a chance to see how the Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster pulls this story off!  Their display previewing next year’s performance is larger than life, and I’m sure their play will be, too.

If you are interested in purchasing tickets for shows at either theater, you can visit their website for more information on times and pricing.  I highly recommend seeing one of the shows at Sight & Sound Theatre!

Disclosure:  I did receive tickets to take my family to see Joseph at Sight & Sound Theatre in Lancaster, PA.  The free tickets did not influence my opinion as I already wanted to see a play here. All opinions are mine, and the fact that my son watches Moses on DVD EVERY weekend attests to the fact that Sight & Sound Theatre puts on some pretty amazing shows!
