Keeping the Diva Happy
I don’t know about your pet, but if our cat isn’t happy, no one is happy. She is almost like a little kid, whining if she doesn’t get the food she wants or enough attention. Yes, if she wants to be petted in the middle of the night, she will jump on top of Don to wake him up. Does your cat do that?
Well, part of keeping her happy is to make sure she has enough toys to play with. Cat toys can get expensive, so we have been known to make our own. It can be as simple as crocheting a long chain of single stitches to drag around. This one is kind of fun because when she wants us to play with her, she will drag this string through the house to us. We’ve also made a catnip “mouse’. Today, I’d like to should you how we make a simple catnip “mouse”.
Are you surprised my kids chose Mickey Mouse fabric for this project? Anyway, I didn’t use a pattern for this. This is the shape I chose to cut based on what it looked like folded in half lengthwise. You can see the measurements, but I did end up cutting off some of the length at the end.
This project really doesn’t require many supplies. I did add a few strands of yarn at the end, though. And the jar of catnip should last us for a LONG time!
I pulled out my handy sewing machine, but this is a small enough project that if you wanted to sew it by hand, it wouldn’t be a problem. I sewed the fabric down the long curved side to the pointed end and left the straight end open for stuffing and catnip to be added.
After the side was sewed, I turned the project right-side out. Since it is very narrow, I used the stick to make sure it was fully right-side out.
My daughter helped me with making this “mouse”. She used the stick to help pack some stuffing into the “nose” of the “mouse”.
Then, she added some catnip. We alternated the layers of stuffing and catnip, making sure the stuffing was packed in firmly.
She sure enjoys that mouse!
Next, I stitched up the end and added a few strings of yarn to make the “mouse” whiskers. Toys aren’t the only way to her heart, though. She also LOVES to eat! She loves to eat natural wet cat food, like Purina Muse Natural Recipes.
