I received this box of goodies from Jolly Time Pop Corn in hopes that I would share about their healthier alternative to sugary trick-or-treat candy. You know, I’m glad I can share this with you because we are BIG popcorn fans! You can just ask my daughter, who would likely eat her weight in popcorn every day if I would let her. Have you purchased what you plan on handing out on Thursday, yet? If you are anything like me, you are still thinking about what you plan to hand out.
My daughter was really happy to help me try out the popcorn that we were sent. She has really been enjoying the microwave popcorn, and we’ve found that it pops really well with few unpopped kernels.
So, the other night, my daughter and I were messing around with the popcorn ball maker and came up with this monstrosity. We just took some melted caramel and mixed it with popcorn. Then, we poured some melted chocolate over it. It was tasty but not near as good as the recipe below from Jolly Time.
What some people have in honor of Halloween, like popcorn balls, stays around our house throughout the fall. So, for those of you who are planning a Halloween get-together, would you like a great popcorn ball recipe?
Caramel Corn Apples
- 6 cups popped Jolly Time Blast O Butter Microwave Pop Corn
- 2 cups crisp rice cereal
- 1/2 cup chopped dried apples
- 1 package (14 oz) caramels, about 48, unwrapped
- 2 Tbsp water
- 2 Tbsp butter or margarine
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Wooden sticks
Directions: Place popped popcorn, rice cereal, and apples in a large bowl. In medium saucepan over low heat, heat caramels, water, and butter until caramels are melted, stirring frequently. (Or you may microwave caramels, water, and butter in medium microwave-safe bowl on High 2-1/2 to 3 minutes or until smooth, stirring every minute.) Stir in cinnamon. Pour caramel mixture over popcorn and toss to coat well. Let cool about 5 minutes. With slightly dampened hands, shape into 8 balls around wooden sticks. Place on lightly-buttered wax paper to set. Wrap in plastic wrap; tie with a ribbon.
Yields 8 popcorn balls. For more recipes, check out www.jollytime.com/recipes. Follow Jolly Time on Pinterest for more popcorn fun!
