Be Flexible

Flexible

Sometimes, things don’t go as planned.  That has happened to us several times over the last few years.  In January of 2012, we moved to Oklahoma.  We were so happy and looking forward to living there for quite some time.  However, things didn’t work out that way.  God evidently had other plans.

In May of this year, we made another move.  This time further East.  Now, that we are here, we realize all the things we were missing in Oklahoma.  Now, we can see all the services the kids need but weren’t available where we were living before.  We found a great doctor for the kids who is nothing short of a Godsend.  This doctor has taken an interest (and charge) in their healthcare, and now, we are heading to appointments everywhere.  Some appointments, we are having to wait for, and others are occurring right away.

With our return to doctors’ appointments and therapy appointments, I have come to realize that I need to become more flexible.  I’m a rather rigid person, and having appointments that vary in time from day-to-day grates on my nerves.  Yes, I like order.  {No, you wouldn’t think that if you looked at my house.}  But with Don’s schedule varying from day-to-day and appointment times changing each time, either it drives me up the wall, or I become more flexible.  It’s stressful, but I try to keep my mind set on Him.  In Isaiah 26:3 NIV, the Bible says, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”  So, until I become more flexible (and even after), I can rely on His peace to carry me through.

I also love having order in my life. We try to keep our family on a schedule and it can be hard sometimes when our days dont turn out as planned. It is great to take a breather and be flexible sometimes.

I’m usually a very scheduled person (including vacation planning) but with 4 kids it has become more stressful to try and keep a strict schedule (especially this fall when they will all be in school ~ 3 different schools!) … I think you are right, either its going to drive me nuts, or i need to become more un-scheduled and more flexible in my thinking 🙂
