Healthy Helpings MyPlate Pocket Chart is based on the ChooseMyPlate.gov USDA guide for healthy eating. While ChooseMyPlate.gov is the “curriculum”, Healthy Helpings MyPlate Pocket Chart is the fun learning tool that can be utilized to help teach healthy eating.
The “plate” is divided into four parts: Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, and Protein with an added side of Dairy. The hanging chart also includes a stack of cards…
that has the food on the front and the food type on the back. This way the kids can quiz themselves. The cards came in sheets that were very easy to bend back-and-forth to split them apart.
There are clear plastic “troughs” that hold the cards as they are added to the plate. There are several learning ideas included with this game, and there are ways to use this with younger and older children. While the younger children will match foods with the right food types, the older children can discuss the nutritional labeling of their favorite foods to determine which category they would fit in.
This is a very visual tool for kids with learning challenges. It is bright, colorful, and attractive to look at. While this is a great tool to teach your kids healthy eating choices, this would also be a great tool for teaching diabetic children how to start making choices to help keep them on an even level. To help them start taking control of their future.
