The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

A few weeks ago, my family and I went to Walt Disney World.  We were able to catch the last few days of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and the first few days of Christmas activities.  I will be sharing some of our trip report over the next few weeks.  It will probably take me that long to go through the thousands of pictures I took while I was on vacation.  No, they aren’t all good photos…

Today, I want to show you some pictures of The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney Hollywood Studios.  I LOVE Christmas lights, and this display does not skimp.  In case you don’t know the story, this light display used to be at a private home.

Years ago, an Arkansas businessman, Jennings Osborne, started a light display at the request of his daughter.  Over the years, the display grew.  Mr. Osborne bought the two properties next to him and spread his display through them, too.  The streets became congested as people drove through his neighborhood to see the lights.  Neighbors filed a lawsuit, and the lights were ordered shut down.  Then, Disney offered to bring Mr. Osborne’s light display to Disney’s Hollywood Studios (then named Disney-MGM Studios).  Mr. Osborne accepted, and The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights opened at Walt Disney World in 1995.

In the pictures below, there are 3 hidden Mickey’s.  Can you find them all?

To reserve your next trip to Walt Disney World, email me at [email protected] or visit http://bit.ly/Q33u06 for a no obligation quote.

I actually got to see the Osborne light display when they were still doing it in Little Rock. It was crazy! I can understand why the city asked him to stop doing it. I’m glad to know the display has been moved so that people can still enjoy it!

I was living in Arkansas at that time, too. I never made it down there to see it, but I remember all the news reports! It really is beautiful, and I can certainly understand why it got so crowded in his neighborhood.

This is something to look forward to. The kids and I have been to Disney before but we only got to watch the electrical parade. I’m sure they’d love to see the dancing lights.

What a great story I have not seen the light show during Christmas, but I hear it’s a must see.
