JB: After the amazing success of my children’s book The Princess and the Kiss, and the development of a similar book for boys, and study guides for the books, all surrounding the message of preparing a child’s heart for purity, I began to do Planned Purity conferences. That methodology is all here in book form, giving parents a complete guide to purity training and the resources to do so. As a parent, I longed for tools like this.
PDH: Is the model that you developed for this book the model that you used with your own children?
JB: To some degree, yes. I wish I had had the entire approach intact when they were much younger, but it was a process I learned as they grew, and now many parents benefit from it.
PDH: Many non-Christian readers may quickly read this post and think that it is only for Christians. Does your book contain useful information for non-Christians, too?
JB: Absolutely. In fact, I wrote the book with both Christian and non-Christian audiences in mind, and can present the Planned Purity system on many levels in many settings, from schools to business to churches. It’s very practical and flexible, biblically based, but intelligent and not preachy.
PDH: What is the single-most important advice you can give to parents of teenagers regarding “saving the kiss”?
JB: Start early by training them using the Five Doors of the Heart and creating a bridge to sexual purity as they grow. Don’t believe that purity training is just for teens, or simply about sex. It’s about the heart, and that can be formed at a very young age.
PDH: What additional information would you like my readers to know about your book?
JB: Planned Purity is a definitive purity training resource for families. The book has a lifetime method of purity training, heart outward, plus tons of great resources like scripts, object lessons and family contracts. If you want a plan that really explains and makes purity training approachable and practical, this could be the answer for your family!
Here’s a terrific glimpse at the fantastic speaking events that Jennie Bishop presents to parents all over the world on behalf of Planned Purity.
