I was raised as an ovo-lacto vegetarian. That means I eat dairy and eggs but not other meat sources. I get most of my protein from plant-based sources.
I’ve eaten a LOT of different soy-based products in my lifetime, but when I saw Butler Soy Curls, I knew I just had to try them. A lot of the TVP (textured vegetable protein) that I used in my over the years is just plain… Umm… Well, it’s not something that I really care for. Butler Soy Curls looked similar, in a way, but I had high hopes for something better, and I was NOT disappointed, at all!
When I received the box of Soy Curls from Butler Foods, I also got a sheet of recipes to try. Of these recipes, I tried a Chik-Style Salad and Spread, Soy Curls BBQ, and …
Butler Soy Curls Curried Rice. I also tried adding the Soy Curls to soup, lasagna, and alfredo. I was very impressed with the versatility of this product, and it was not salty like so much of the TVP is. Soy Curls is a totally different product, but it also has a decent shelf life for a product that is 100% natural.
The next thing I want to mention is gluten, and this was something that was really hard for me to grasp. All my life, I heard the term, “gluten” steaks. I’ve even made them from scratch. BUT Butler Soy Curls are Gluten-Free. This surprised me so much that I had to question it. I was told that Soy Curls are made from the whole soybean. No additives. Since soybeans contain no gluten, Soy Curls are Gluten-Free. Isn’t that cool?
Butler Soy Curls™

Oh, I didn’t mention the Chik-Style Seasoning… Well, I haven’t eaten chicken before, at least not knowingly, so I can’t tell you if it made the Soy Curls taste like chicken or not. However, what I can tell you is that this seasoning reminded me of something that my mother used as seasoning when I was much younger. It is very tasty, and I have actually used it to season other things.
I would definitely recommend Butler Soy Curls, and I will be placing an order in the next week. I like the fact that Butler Soy Curls don’t have the additives that so many other meat-substitutes have. It is nice to have a protein source that is all natural!
