ABCs of Homeschooling – “D” is for…

Our family is back today with 5 Kids and a Dog and the ABCs of Homeschooling.  Today is the letter “D”.  This was a very easy one for me to come up with!  “D” equals DETERMINATION!

There are so many ways that determination comes into play with our homeschool and our family.  Both kids have different learning challenges, and it has taken great determination to find what curriculum works best.  It has also taken great determination to continue homeschooling.  We have homeschooled through changing jobs, moving across country, and caring for a terminally ill relative.  I would never say that it has been easy, but with determination and God’s leading, we have continued.

Our other example of determination deals with our seemingly neverending search for a diagnosis for our children.  We know that DS8 is on the Autism Spectrum (most likely Aspergers), but both children have a physical condition that has yet to be given a name.  Every specialist that we see says that DD11 has Marfan Syndrome, but all the criteria has not been met. {Thankfully, it has not been met because most patients have heart problems.}  We saw the latest specialist just last week.  He agreed with the rest of the specialists; although, he doesn’t have specific experience with Marfan, either.  He suggested that we see a specialty clinic that deals with connective tissue disorders.  Unfortunately, there are none in our state, so it looks like we may be traveling.  Determination (and God) will carry us through to an answer!

Wow! That is determination. We,(I) get so busy in my life that I fail to look beyond sometimes and see that other people have things in their lives they have to be determined about. Thank God for His grace on all of us.

I had never heard of Marfan Syndrome. I did a bit of quick research to learn more. Thank you so much for sharing.

PS. Love your Disney stuff. I grew up in SoCal going to Disneyland a LOT. Definitely an afficionado!

Thank you for coming by and reading! We (including me) do get so busy that we miss a lot of things. What is sad is that there are many that are worse off than us! I saw a quote tweeted recently that I really liked. It was something like…God doesn’t give us more than we can handle; I wish He would trust me so much. This is true! While times may be rough, He never gives us more than we can handle. He will give us strength!

You must have such wonderful memories growing up in SoCal!

Your children are unique with special needs that you, as mom, are determined to provide them with the unique and special care they need. It is a special cross to carry and you need to be encouraged and supported by others. Keep turning to the Dear Lord!

Thank you for stopping by and reading! I am determined, but more importantly, my husband is very supportive, too! The most important of all is that God is leading, and we can see that from doctor-to-doctor. Each one seems to build on the other. Not so much for the final answer but more as a connection to the next doctor. Eventually, God will lead us to just the right one to get our answer…in His time.

Determination for sure, especially when we have special needs children to care for, illness within the family, and changing vocations/jobs. You’re right though…God does see us through the hard times and the good times too.

If you do have to travel outside your state, I pray that you find an excellent doctor/facility that can help treat your child’s illness/course of treatment. Be safe on all your travels! Thanks for sharing.

Determination is a great word! When we hit a rough patch, that can be the ONLY thing that gets us through.

Praying for you as you search for answers!
