Over the last few weeks, I have contemplated the words “exclusive” and “inclusive”. I guess it is something that I never really thought about before because I am a person who looks at everyone the same. I mean, I never really noticed how much more exclusive things had gotten until…
During the election my Facebook news feed was a mix of conservative and liberal with the conservatives being more vocal. My Twitter feed was the opposite with the liberals being more vocal. Some people said some pretty hurtful things, but I stayed out of the fray for the most part.
The same thing happened when the same-sex marriage case came up in the Supreme Court. A great number of my Facebook friends changed their pictures to depict where they stood on the case. My news feed was filled with parallel lines going up-and-down and parallel lines going from side-to-side. Here again, people were very adamant about their stance, and feelings were hurt.
Just yesterday, I saw a person on my friend list post how she lost friends over her beliefs. Really? I don’t believe that we should lose friends over any debate of personal beliefs. How can we exclude our friends because they have different beliefs? Were they even really good friends, then?
My point is… When did we become a society that we have to be so exclusive in our groups? I know there was some exclusivity in high school. Maybe not as much in my high school as others because it was a small town. The groups crossed some, and we included others more. If I wanted to join another group, it was pretty easy to get invited. We were more inclusive in our thoughts and actions.
I haven’t wanted to be part of an exclusive group for a long time until I heard about the Fairy Hobmother. Yes, you read that right. Have you heard of the Fairy Hobmother?

No one likes to feel excluded. I loved that about most of my friends in highschool we seemed to include everyone more like a family. We didn’t always see eye to eye but we still loved each other. Glad you got to be included in the fairydustedhomeschool crowd!
