ABCs of Homeschooling – “B” is for…

I’m continuing with the ABCs of Homeschooling with 5 Kids and a Dog today, and the letter of the week is “B”.

This week, I have pondered over the “B” words in my vocabulary, hoping to find just the right word to fit this week’s letter.  I don’t know why it has been so hard!  The first word that came to mind was beleaguered.  While homeschooling can be (and sometimes is) full of difficulties, I did not think that this was quite the right word.  Bossy?  NO!  Bald?  Maybe my other half…

Then, I stumbled onto the word I was searching for…Believe.  “B” is for believe.  We didn’t plan on homeschooling.  It was never something that we ever considered.  Homeschooling, however, was in God’s plans.  When I look back at all the things that I did and learned in college, I see that God was starting to prepare me for homeschooling the kids back when I was saying that I was NEVER going to get married.  Oops!  That was evidently in God’s plan, too.

So, my point is that we have to believe that we are doing the right things to teach our kids what they need to know.  We have to believe that God is watching and directing our activities.  We have to believe that God is using us to lead our kids through school and on to Heaven.

While we can’t see God, we can see His evidence all around us to aid in our believing.  Just as God brings the flower buds to life after the winter…

Flowers starting to come to life after the snow melted.

…and gives us our food, we can see and believe.

Apples ready to pick from the tree.

And even though it seems as if the floodgates pour…

Water roaring through the floodgates.

…causing a few hair raising moments,

A hair raising moment I had a few years ago.

we can believe in God to protect us and carry us through.  He will give us peace!

Perfect Peace

You’re SO RIGHT about believing! Funny how when we look back we can see where God changed our plans and made us eat our words. 🙂

Yes, I can look back on many words that He has made me eat. That’s ok, though, because things have always worked out for the best!

We didn’t plan to homeschool either. We’re finishing up our 15th year now!

Believe is a great word. We need to believe in a lot of things to get us through everyday. Believe God will give us the strength and the wisdom. Believe in what we’re doing. Believe we can do it even when it doesn’t seem so fun. Believe we’re doing the best thing for our family.

    Great choice.

Isn’t it funny how many of us homeschoolers didn’t plan on this path, but it has still worked out? I can’t imagine 15 years! Wow!

Isn’t it amazing how God prepares us for things and we don’t know it until way later?

I love that hair raising photo!

It’s like the Footprints poem. It’s nice to be able to look back and realize why things happen.

I used B for Believe also. It’s a definitely must in our homeschool and family goals. I have always wanted to homeschool our children, but the DH still had doubts…up until our oldest was heading into the 6th grade. I whole heartedly BELIEVE God carried us into this moment and we are blessed to receive it. I <3 Homeschooling! 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

It is hard to believe when your spouse isn’t totally on board. I’m glad that God carried (and is carrying) you through!
