Advice for Seekers is a reprinted version of a 1896 work called Words of Advice for Seekers by Charles Spurgeon. Charles Spurgeon was an influential Baptist minister who lived from 1834 to 1892. Advice for Seekers was published by Attic Books, a division of New Leaf Publishing Group.
Attic Books took great pains to make this book look like a truly old book with an aged look to its cover and tattered pages.
Before Advice for Seekers, I had never read anything by Charles Spurgeon. I had heard of him but had never read or heard his work. This book retains the older-style of the day in which it was written. For some, this may be a little difficult to read. From the title of this book, one would think that this would be a book for new converts or those seeking a relationship with their Savior. This book is actually for anyone, regardless of where their walk is. However, there is one exception. I found the first few pages to be rather stern and may be a turn off for those who are not ready for the bluntness that parts of this book contains. If you want to share this with a friend who is not quite ready for the words “you are insulting God” and “You insult the wisdom of God and the love of God.”, you may want to choose a more encouraging section of the book to share with your friend.
I don’t want to discourage you from reading this book. There are many very encouraging passages in this book that help the reader search for a closer more meaningful connection with God. I find that it is easier to read a book when one understands the unique characteristics of the book.
