I took yesterday off for DS7’s (now graduated to DS8) birthday. The trip to Disneyland was really for his birthday celebration, and we just had cake at home on his actual birthday.
While we were at Disneyland, DS8 looked and looked (actually drooled and drooled) at the Vinylmations. We had not really had the opportunity to get into the Vinylmation trading on our last trip. Pin trading was all that we could handle previously. On this trip, he was drawn to the Mickey shape of the Vinyls and just had to get one. He looked at several sport ones, but he couldn’t really decide which one he wanted. When I suggested that he just get one of the “unknown” ones and just trade until he was happy, he jumped on it. He got a Muppet one (Statler, I think). He liked it until he saw a gear one. Then, the trading began. He traded for the gear Vinyl but soon traded that away, too. Soon, DD11 and I each got one and joined him in the trading. We traded several times during our trip until we finally got ones that we really liked. Then, Charlie decided that he wanted us to get him one and trade with it. Unfortunately (or fortunately, however you look at it), it was one that we wanted to keep. DD11 ended up with a pink crystal Vinyl. DS8 got a gear Vinyl that was the same as one he had gotten in an earlier trade. I finished off with Bullseye.
DS8 opened his birthday Vinyl and found a Marie. I could tell that he wasn’t exactly thrilled. Of course, we know that he can trade it on our next trip, but how do you explain that to a disappointed eight year-old? I quickly pointed out that I had a Bullseye, and a rapid trade occurred. He is the happy owner of a Bullseye. DD11 is drooling over my Marie, but she doesn’t want to give up her pink crystal Vinyl. I know that there will be lots more trading occurring on our next trip. Charlie’s birthday is coming up soon, and there will probably even be trading happening then.
So, a very Happy Birthday to our son!
