ABCs of Homeschooling – Back to the Very Beginning

My friend Dawn (from 5 Kids with a Dog) has changed her blog name and domain to The Momma Knows.  “Why?” you might be asking.  Well, Dawn has reached a new point in her life.  Now, she only has 2 kids homeschooling, and she’s a grandma.  Okay, the grandma part really surprised me…

Dawn has decided to go through the alphabet again, so I thought I would join along.  I want to incorporate some different things this time around, so please don’t just turn away, figuring that you have already seen it.  These will be entirely new posts with a few surprises here and there.

Today, we are starting back at the letter “A”, so I am going to introduce you to ASIMO. DS8 has had a life-long fascination with robots.  When we took the kids on their first trip to Disneyland several years ago, DS8 was ecstatic to see a robot that walked and talked.  The ASIMO demonstration/performance is in Innoventions in Tomorrowland.

ASIMO is a robot built by Honda.  Yes, Honda…the car people.  ASIMO stands for Advanced Step in Innovative MObility.  It took many years and much trial and error to develop what ASIMO is today.  What I love is that Honda has a website devoted to ASIMO that has videos of the different versions leading up to ASIMO, as well as, a few learning activities to add to your robot discussions.

While we were at Disneyland last month, I took a video of the ASIMO show because I wanted to share the show with everyone who has kids (or kids-at-heart) with a love of robots.

I hope you enjoyed a little piece of Disneyland and science in your homeschool day!

I hope they enjoy it! Make sure you let them see the videos of the earlier models. They are so hilarious!
