We are almost through the entire alphabet with Dawn over at 5 Kids and a Dog. This week is the letter “U”.
In our unique schooling situation, we understand that schedules may not be set in stone. We understand that the school location may not always be the same. We understand that things may not always get done the way the teacher (mom) wants it to get done. We understand that perfection is not what we are striving for. We understand that our goal is for our children to attain the skills to be productive adults, spreading the word of God. We understand that love for our children is what drives our school forward.
Homeschooling is unique. Not every homeschool operates that same, but we all operate with the understanding that we believe that homeschool is the best school for our children. However, we also understand that our friends, family, and neighbors may not always agree with us.
We understand that when the going gets tough; we go outside or do crafts. We understand that when DS8 has had enough for the day; he has had enough. We understand that we need to plan ahead to get the core subjects in before he has had enough.
The point is that, as homeschoolers, we have the opportunity to listen to our children and tailor the learning to fit them, instead of having a “one-size-fits-all” education. However, to have that tailored education, we have to understand what causes our children to learn and how to make it fun for them. We also have to understand that we have to do all of this while staying within the guidelines of the state that we live in.

Great post! You’ve captured so many aspects about how understanding is key to effectively homeschooling and making it an educational – yet positive and fun experience – for everyone.

Thanks, Ann! It is not always fun… However, we try to always make it positive!

Thank you! It is amazing how much that one word makes a difference in so much, not just homeschooling!

Understanding is part of the beauty of homeschooling. If we understand our childrens’ needs, we can help them learn the easiest way.

Very true; unfortunately, it isn’t always easy….

Hi! Great first review! I’m on The Crew, too — my first review is next week! 🙂 The game looks like a lot of fun, too.

Thank you, Mary! I was a little nervous about the first one, but I think it went ok.
