I remember my father taking me to see the circus when I was a kid.  The circus was fun to watch, but it was before the circus that I enjoyed the most.  My father would take me out to the fairgrounds to see the circus tent go up.  We would watch as the elephants would help.  That was one of my fondest memories growing up.

I was fascinated by the elephants and how much they could do.  They were so big!  Sometimes, if they had elephant rides at the circus, my father would let me ride.  It was one of my favorite treats.

This month, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey presents Circus XTREME is coming to the Giant Center in Hershey, PA.  While there is no circus tent to raise, I’m excited to be able to take my kids to see the elephants.  There is definitely a LOT more to the circus, but the elephants have made a big impression on me, and I want to be able to share that with my children.

Feld Entertainment has announced that the elephants will be retired by 2018 and will be relocated to a new home in the Center for Elephant Conservation.  While I will be sad to see the elephants leave the circus, I certainly understand that this will be a MUCH better move for the elephants!

Here’s the official blurb about the show:

This is great! I wish we had the circus come to town here… They come in very rarely.

I haven’t been to the circus since I was a child (well, except for a little traveling one that occasionally came through town). I’d love to take my kids! A camel with 2 humps in a Bactrian camel. 🙂
