Visualizing the sanctuary can be so difficult…
DD11 and I are reading the Bible in 90 days with Mom’s Toolbox, and we have just finished Exodus. Sometimes, it is difficult to really picture what the scripture is describing when so many details are put in such a small amount of text. Several years ago, DD11 (then 6) and I had the blessing of seeing the sanctuary in real life size. It is the mission of a small Christian school in Oklahoma to travel with this sanctuary, explaining the purpose behind the symbolism. In the above picture is the laver made of bronze for cleansing.
In the first compartment of the Tabernacle (the Holy Place) is the Lampstand, the Table of Showbread, and the Altar of Incense. Here one of Aaron’s sons’ tunics can be seen.
The above picture is a depiction of what Aaron’s clothing would have looked like.
Pictured above is the Altar of Incense and the curtain going into the second compartment of the Tabernacle, or the Most Holy Place.
The only thing in the Most Holy Place was the ark of the Testimony.
I hope that this pictorial trip through the sanctuary is a help to those studying Exodus. If you have a chance to see this exhibit, it is definitely worth the time and effort!
This group comes to Arizona every year, I think. I’ve been to see it once and it was really cool! It is hard to read the texts with the massive descriptions and picture it in your head. It helped to go in person and see what the sanctuary would have looked like.
Yes, seeing it in person made it seem so much more real to me.
