What is Fair Trade? What does it mean? How can you help?

Fair Trade is a method of certification that allows you to identify products that are produced ethically. Your purchases can help reduce poverty. For farmers and/or workers in developing countries, Fair Trade means better prices, better terms of trade and business skills that allow them to compete in the global market. Today, Fair Trade helps over 1 million farming families in 70 developing countries throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The Fair Trade network certifies items such as coffee, tea and herbs, cocoa, fresh fruit and vegetables, sugar, beans and grains, flowers, nuts, oils and butters, honey and spices, wine and apparel, and certified ingredients are now used in ready-to-drink beverages, body care products and spirits. Here, in the United States, Fair Trade Certified products can be found in more than 50,000 retail locations.

This means that by purchasing products that have the fair trade certified label, you are helping to end poverty and improve trading for farmers and workers in developing countries. Feel good about your purchases and shop with pride when you buy Fair Trade Certified! Look for this logo when shopping.
