How to Make Thanksgiving Educational

How to Make Thanksgiving Educational

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and also enjoy our families, but it’s also an opportune time to teach the kids a few valuable educational lessons.  Check out some of these tips for making Thanksgiving a little more educational this year.

Cooking is so Fun!

I bet you didn’t know how educational cooking can be for children.  Of course, for it to be educational, you’ll need to actually get the kids involved with measuring, counting, and assisting you in any way possible.  Also, let the older ones be in charge of their own dishes or desserts.

Reading Books

One of my favorite past times to do with my kids while teaching them about Thanksgiving is reading books together.  There is so much history behind the United States of America and our Thanksgiving holiday that is only makes sense to spend time reading about it.  Don’t be afraid to buy at least one book a year in regards to this topic.

Family Learning Activities

There is so much you can do as a family this year to spend time learning and prepping for Thanksgiving.  Try completing a Thanksgiving activity book together, doing a turkey craft together, or taking a nature walk during the Thanksgiving weekend.

Get Physically Fit

One of the best educational things your family can do this Thanksgiving is do an activity that’s educational and gets you healthy. There is always some type of ‘run’ going on during the Thanksgiving holiday.  Get the whole family involved and run the race together.  You can spend time learning about the importance of keeping hydrated and staying physically fit.  You can also talk about the importance of eating a well balanced diet, even around the holidays.

Making Thanksgiving educational doesn’t take much thought.  Just do what you normally do but put a little more emphasis on the learning part.  To document the learning you’ve done throughout the seasons of Thanksgiving, put a family scrapbook together.
