Science in the Beginning

Science is a touchy subject around here because some books are just way more than what we need, and some are just downright boring.  Yes, you heard me say it.  Boring!  Black and white just doesn’t cut it for a science book in this day and age.  Also, I prefer my science to be Christian but non-denominational, and it’s great if it will allow me to teach to a wide variety of grades at the same time.  I’m not asking much, am I?  Is this what you are looking for, too?

Science in the Beginning Table of Contents

I honestly think that Science in the Beginning by Dr. Jay L. Wile has fit the bill for all of my wants.  At the beginning of the book, there is a list of all the needed items for each experiment by section.  Did I mention that the book is divided by “days of creation”?  The whole science book is divided by what would have been created during each day of creation.  I LOVE that concept.  Also, each lesson has a short experiment that helps drive home the principle that is being discussed. Below, you can see the experiment we did with Lesson 29. We were to take a tea bag, cut it right below the folded part and empty the tea out to form one long tube of tea bag material. We stood this upright on a plate, and…. Take a look and see what happened.

This experiment took my son by surprise, and both kids had to do it again later for their father.  It’s nice to be able to do something so fun but yet full of learning

Science in the Beginning Review Section

The book can be used with multiple grade levels, and actually, I have used this to teach a 3rd grader and an 8th grader this year.  We used the younger questions as a conversational starting point to the other assignments.  The assignments are such that it helps my kids recall what they studied; however, it is not overkill on the work end.  I really like how this is set up!

Science in the Beginning is a very inexpensive option at $39, especially because it can be used with such a wide variety of ages.  If you are looking for your science curriculum for next year, you need to take a look at this book!

Disclosure:  I received a free copy of the above book.  I received no other compensation, nor was I required to give a positive review.  All opinions are mine.
