Multiplication Slam

Multiplication Slam

Educational Insights sent me a Multiplication Slam for my kids to try out in hopes that I would share my thoughts with you.

Multiplication Slam is a game that aims to drill multiplication in a fun way.  A way that allows the child to look at the problem from several different directions.  We all know the more ways we look at something; the better we will likely remember it.

Multiplication Slam has five different games in it:

  • Skip It – Choose the multiples on the answer paddles from lowest to highest.
  • Fast Facts – Choose a fact to drill and choose the correct answer to the problem.
  • Factor Frenzy – Choose the missing factor.  For example 6 x __ = 18.
  • Factor Pairs – Choose the two factors that equal the product given.
  • Sequence – Choose the answer that completes the sequence.

Factor Frenzy

With Factor Frenzy, you start by choosing the factor that you would like your child to drill.

Factor Frenzy 2

Then, your child chooses the missing factor.  I really like this game the best because it is a precursor to thinking about division.

Factor Pairs

This is the Factor Pairs.  It is a nice concept, but I wish there were more choices.  It seems too easy with only four options.

Overall, I like the Multiplication Slam device.  The one complaint I would have is that the speaker was a little static-y, even when I turned the volume down.  Of course, we could still understand the questions.  Plus, the questions are visual…  One thing that I really liked is that the timing is done in the background.

Specifics of the Multiplication Slam:

  • Grade 3+
  • Age 8 and up
  • Requires 3 AA batteries (not included)
  • Sells for $39.99
