See the Light

I received a copy of See the Light Art Projects Repeated Sweets in order to write the review below.

See the Light

I have a secret.  I can’t draw a straight line, nor can I draw a circle.  I am severely art-challenged, so I asked Don if he would take charge of doing this art project with the kids.  He took charge and started the lessons with the DVD and the items listed on the back.

Before showing you how the kids have progressed, let me tell you a little about these lessons.  See the Light Art Projects is comprised of 9 DVDs.  These can be purchased as a set ($99.99) or individually ($14.99).  Each DVD leads you through making a project based on the works of a famous artist.

We reviewed Repeated Sweets and are working on a painting in the style of American Pop artist Wayne Thiebaud.  The kids poured over the list of DVDs before choosing this particular one.

Sweet drawing

So, the kids started with making and cutting out shapes of treats.  These are my daughter’s treats.  Well, what’s missing is her donut because she and her brother decided to use her donut shape in the next step.

Tracing and details

In this photo, my son is working on tracing the donut shape several times on his poster board.  After tracing the shapes, he went back and drew in the details before going on to the flat wash step.

Making the flat wash

After tracing and detailing, it was time to make the colored water to color the background with.  DS10 made it a little too orange the first time, but it was easy for him to change it out and paint over it with the red he wanted.

Flat wash red

Here is DS10’s with the flat wash background done.

Flat wash purple

DD14 decided to do a similar layout with a light purple background.  I can’t wait to see what they look like when the kids are done. We haven’t quite finished, yet, but they have really been enjoying the program.

Don and the kids have been having fun with this program, and it is nice to have art instruction in our home.  I did notice that the materials needed on the back of the DVD differed from what the instructor used in the lesson that I saw.  In the lesson with the flat wash, she mentioned bristol board, but that wasn’t listed on the materials list.  Even with this discrepancy, I would still recommend these art lessons.

Disclosure:  I received the above See the Light Art Project DVD as a part of Mosaic Reviews.  I was not required to write a positive review.
