What are virtues? The dictionary says that virtue is the conformity to the standard of right or a particular moral excellence. In other words, when we teach our children virtues, we are teaching them to practice proper moral behavior. Simply put, we are teaching them to behave. We Choose Virtues is a company that makes bright, colorful tools to help teach virtues to children in schools, churches, and at home. With faith-based and neutral teaching materials, children from all walks of life can learn virtues in a fun and informative way.
We Choose Virtues puts this very simply in this poster ($11.99) for the younger ages. Obey, Be Kind, and Be a Helper.
We Choose Virtues has a teacher handbook available ($4.99 for download, $19.99 for hard copy) to give suggestions to teach virtues with the We Choose Virtues products in a way that will stay with the children you are teaching.
I think my favorite of the items that I reviewed are the Parenting Cards – faith based ($34.99). Every virtue is assigned a cute cartoon-like character to help the children remember that particular virtue. Each virtue has a positive saying associated with it.
For instance, I AM patient. I wait, and wait, and wait with a smile. Our faith-based cards came with a text for each virtue. The non-faith-based cards do not have any text or Christian connotation.
I have been integrating the We Choose Virtues products into our Bible time. We start the week with the discussion of a new virtue and coloring the corresponding sheet from the Kids of VirtueVille Color Book ($3.00 by itself, or Free with the Parenting Cards). The next day, we write the Bible text corresponding to the virtue.
The poster on the left is the Kids Virtue Poster ($14.99). It has all the virtues with the corresponding kids and sayings. It is a sturdy poster, and it is certainly a must-have part of the We Choose Virtues program. The poster on the right is the 100 Days of Virtues Chart and Butterfly Stickers ($13.99). Once we have completed each virtue, we will go through and measure our progress on keeping our virtues each and every day.
We Choose Virtues has a sale going through the end of June. That would be today and tomorrow. If a July special comes out, I will come back and add it here.
