Over the last few years, we have been fortunate enough to have gone to the Grand Canyon on several occasions. It is always amazing when we are treated to the fairly rare sight of California Condors in flight. These birds are gaining numbers in the canyon and are just spectacular to watch. Their wingspan can get up to 9 1/2 feet, and they can glide on thermal updrafts at up to 50 miles per hour. They can travel 100 miles or more per day, expending little energy. (Information from the Nation Parks Service website)
Both of the following pictures were taken by me on two different occasions. When we saw the juvenile Condor, it was practicing flying with other juveniles under the watchful eyes of a couple of adults. What a beautiful site!

What is really funny is that when I looked up the NPS.gov website to get information for this post, I found that their adult Condor picture was actually the same bird as mine. What is the odds of that?
How cool. I’d love to see condors in real life.
Thank you for stopping by! Condors are truly magical in flight. I hope you get to see some in real life!
Oh I would love to see them in person. SO so cool. I’ve only been to the Grand Canyon once. How silly is that?? I was very young too. My husband and I have talked about going many times. We really need to do that. 🙂
I hope that you can go sometime!
Wow! You know I miss seeing them since my move to the east coast. Such odd looking, beautiful creatures.
They are definitely in the variety of “only a mother could love”! They are so majestic in flight, though. I’m sorry that you are missing them.
Great photo. Thanks for stopping in and linking up today. We hope to see you back next week.
Thank you for stopping by, too!
Wow that is a beautiful shot! I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon. Hopefully my family and I could go on there someday. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Thank you for stopping by! I really hope that everyone who wants to visit the Grand Canyon gets an opportunity to. It is truly a special place!
Very cool! Great shots.
Thank you so much!
