She's talking to me!

Tuesday morning, I got the call that our landlord had agreed to let us get a cat.  The last place we lived would not allow a pet, no matter what.  Here, we just have to pay a pet deposit.  Both kids were so excited!  After Charlie got off of work, we went to our local PetSmart to adopt a cat from the local Humane Shelter.  We looked through the cats there and were drawn to an 8-month old black cat.  She is mainly black with some white hairs dispersed throughout.

The name on the cat’s cage was Grease, but the kids weren’t really wild about that name.  I assured them that they could rename the cat.  DS8 came up with the name Beauty.  DD11 didn’t like that, so I mentioned Black Beauty, the horse.  She was ok with that, then.  Silly me thought that the Disney in him was thinking Sleeping “Beauty” or “Beauty” and the Beast.  We found out later that Disney had nothing to do with the name.  Rather, our science geek son remembered an episode from last season’s Mythbusters that tested some “Green Hornet” myths.  The car was named “Black Beauty”.  So, the name of our new female cat came from a car on Mythbusters.

The kids have been preparing for several days for Beauty’s arrival.  Unfortunately, she had to spend a couple of extra days at the vet’s office, so the kids had plenty of time to prepare.  They were so happy to pick Beauty up today and show her around the house.

DS8 giving Beauty the grand tour.
Beauty has her own space in DD11's room.

I have never seen a cat so upset at a closed door!  We were planning on keeping some rooms closed in the beginning.  That was nixed right away!  I am happy to announce that Beauty has done her exploring and is happily lying on the couch with a view of the birds on the feeder.  Hmmm… Nix that.  She is happily playing with some toys.
