It’s Not in Me…

I could post a pretty picture.  I could write an upbeat post about a trip.  I could write about great and not-so-great customer service.  But I don’t think I will because it is not in me tonight.

I sit here watching the news updates from the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear problems in Japan, and my heart is breaking for them.  It’s so sad to see what they have been through and to know what is ahead of them before it will get better.  As I type, CNN is showing a graphic showing that there have been over 300 aftershocks.  This figure is mind-boggling to me.

But the number of aftershocks is not the worst thing…  The worst is the lack of food and water and the lack of shelter for those who have not been rescued, yet.  CNN is reporting that rain, snow, and colder temperatures will be moving into Japan over the next couple of days, and many of the shelters in the hardest hit areas don’t have electricity, either.

While there is much bad news, there is some heartwarming news, as well.  CNN has an article here that details several stories of rescue:  three elderly people found alive in a car that had been tossed by the tsunami, a woman who clung to a tree, a man found floating in debris more than nine miles from shore.  It is absolutely amazing that these people made it alive.

If you would like to make a donation to the Red Cross, you can donate $10 by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999.  Also, FindingMickey.com is selling some collectibles with the full amount collected going to the Red Cross.  Here is the page for Finding Mickey’s benefit sale.

Our prayers are with all of those in Japan, whether living there or there providing aid.

Becky, I am just heartbroken about Japan. I’m learning the language and am slowly starting to make friends there, thanks to the internet. Even though I’ve never been, the country is special to me and it’s hard seeing what’s going on. This one hit a little bit closer to home than some of the other disasters that have happened (Haiti, etc.) but I’m starting to understand what a big deal tsunami and earthquakes are. Tragic.

Thanks for your comment on my menu. It is a lot of pasta but I wasn’t feeling inspired and didn’t have the energy to try and change it. May I ask what a Runza is? 🙂
