Minions Movie Night

Movie Night – Minions

Last week, my son’s favorite movie from the summer came to Blu-Ray/DVD.  I’m sure you can tell that movie is Minions © 2015 Universal Studios. All rights reserved.  Marvel Boy has Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 on DVD and was really looking forward to getting Minions, too!  He saw the movie in the theater, and he hasn’t stopped talking about it.

I wanted to make a simple snack inspired by Illumination Entertainment’s Minions movie, so in keeping with the oval shape of the minions, I decided to make some baked chips from tortillas.  Of course, we also needed some cheese dip to go along with the yellow color of the minions, too.

Chips Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • Tortillas
  • Olive oil spray
  • Parmesan cheese (I used the non-refrigerated kind, but you could use the shredded refrigerated kind just as easily.)
  • Processed cheese for melting

Directions:

Cutting Chips

I started by making the oval shapes from the tortillas.  I was going to use scissors to cut ovals, but I lucked upon a set of numbered cookie cutters.  The zero made the perfect oval shape and size.  I pressed hard enough to cut out the outer ring but did not punch out the center oval.

Chips Cut

I made ovals from four large tortillas.  The kids happily ate the scraps left over from the tortillas after cutting out the shapes.

Ready to Bake

Then, I brushed both sides of the ovals with olive oil and laid the ovals on my baking stone.  Afterward, I sprinkled parmesan cheese on each round.  Next, the stone went into an oven that was pre-heated to 375 degrees.  The tortilla ovals baked for just over 5 minutes.  It is very important to watch these closely and not depend on time because it doesn’t take long to go from perfect to scorched!

Chips Done

When I pulled the chips out, the cheese was starting to turn a little brown, but the chips were just crisp enough to be devoured quickly.

Melting Cheese

There almost wasn’t enough time to melt the cheese!

Minions Movie Night 2

Have you picked up Minions, yet?  If not, you can find out more about those adorable, little, yellow minions with goggles and where to pick up the movie on their website.  Are you looking for Minions movie night snack inspiration?  You can find more ideas here.

Watching Minions

As far as Marvel Boy goes, he had a great time watching Minions with his minion pal with the Santa hat!
