Easy Ways to Diet While Traveling

These easy ways to diet while traveling will keep you on the road to health success with no problems.  Hitting the road for a family road trip or grabbing a flight across country for a work destination can both be stressful and difficult to manage if you are on a restricted diet.  Whether you are working to lose weight or have food restrictions that make it tough for you to eat specific things, this list will help you to manage just fine the next time you head out of town.

Easy Ways To Diet While Traveling

Look up menus ahead of time

When possible, look up the menu of the restaurant you will be visiting ahead of time.  You can find out the calories, ingredients, and restrictions or options for foods you find appealing.  Even if you chose something off your regular menu plan, this will help you be able to account for it easily in your food journal and make up for it in other ways.

Bring your own snacks

This is much easier to do when traveling by car, but you can also pack a few snacks in your carry on bag for flights.  Being able to have a healthy snack without searching for one in a convenience store or airport terminal will help tremendously.  Planning ahead makes those cravings much easier to conquer.

Drink more water

Staying hydrated will help curb cravings and keep you feeling full while you are on the road.  It also promotes a more active travel experience when you have to stop more frequently and get out of your car for bathroom breaks.  That can help break up your travel and prevent you eating out of boredom.

Split meals with friends and family

When in restaurants, choose to split meals with your spouse, friends, or family instead of eating an entree all by yourself.  Even if you choose a meal that isn’t as healthy as others, it will be easy to manage the lower calories when splitting the meal than if you eat the entire meal by yourself.  It’s also great for your travel partner.

Choose grilled or broiled foods

This is one of our favorite easy ways to diet while traveling.  Choose only meats that are grilled or broiled instead of fried or sautéed.  Grilling and broiling usually doesn’t include oils, butter, or margarine which would add calories and fat to your meal.

Skip the cream sauces

Any sauce that includes cream or butter is going to be higher in calories and not a great choice for your diet.  Ask for them to hold the sauce, or choose a dish without sauce for extra calorie savings.

Splurge on items you can’t find anywhere else

If you are going to eat out, choose something you can’t have back home.  Don’t waste calories on the same burger and fries you could have found at your local diner.

These easy ways to diet while traveling will help you to stay within your calorie range and keep you satisfied.  Being able to enjoy your vacation without wrecking your diet is important.
