How to Make Christmas Educational
Have you thought about making Christmas a little more educational? Consider educational games that will help your child enjoy the holiday season but will also keep him learning. Check out some of these ideas for making the Christmas holiday a little more educational.
Crafting is Very Educational
Did you know that crafting can be educational? Have your kids use this crafting time as a way to do a little more learning. Whether you’re counting buttons or gluing cotton balls, crafting is one way to make sure the holidays stay educational.
Board Games are an Excellent Idea
There are a ton of board games that your family can play over the Christmas holiday break. I think board games are great for having your child think strategically. There’s nothing more educational than a nice little family night of playing Candyland or even an ABC board game. Feel free to create your own board game if you’re not seeing a game that will help your children learn over the holiday season. Feel free to let them help!
Worksheets & Printables
One of my favorite parts of learning over Christmas is the endless possibilities of doing a few “educational” activities over the Christmas holiday. This is a great resource for finding several different worksheets based on the holidays. I believe worksheets are a great way to teach kids, but you do have to go light on them as they can get “old.” You can also spruce up a worksheet by allowing your child to glue down colored pompoms instead of just using crayons. Also, instead of using crayons, you can also use finger paint to bring a worksheet to life.
Reading
Reading Christmas stories is a great way to spend time together and learn more about the holiday. Of course, nothing compares to reading the original Christmas story in the Bible. If you celebrate different winter holidays, make sure to check out books about the history of your holiday. You can also learn about different holidays that are celebrated during this time. Being aware of others’ beliefs is a great thing and will help your kids later in life!
Don’t forget that you don’t have to do anything fancy to make a holiday educational. You can visit a Christmas tree farm and have an educational experience there. It’s all about what your family is up for and how you can make it educational.
