A lot of people near where I live decorate their houses for EVERY holiday. Where I have lived before, people only decorated for the major holidays like Christmas, so this is a new experience for me. The kids and I were trying to figure out what kind of decoration would work for Flag Day and the 4th of July while still showing our personality. It didn’t take long for us to come up with the idea of a Mickey Head shaped wreath in red, white, and blue.
We made a trip to our local JoAnn’s and purchased our supplies:
- 3 rings with one larger than the other two
- wire cutters
- florist wire
- Duck tape in red, white, and blue
- Scissors which we already had
We thought about making all three circles red, white, and blue striped, but DS11 suggested making one small circle all blue with the other two red and white striped to simulate the flag closer. We cut each strip of Duck tape long enough to go around each circle. Here is DS11 working on his blue ear.
DD14 working on her red and white striped ear. What did I do? I stayed busy cutting all the strips of Duck tape to have ready when they needed the next one. After the ears were done, DD14 and I worked on the head.
After all three circles were done, it was time to attach them. At this point, I was glad that we had listened to DS11 because he had a really good idea for the pattern!
I chose to use a few loops of florist wire to attach the ears to the head to give it a little more stability under the tape.
Here, we have all three pieces attached. Now, all we had to do was to find a way to hang it. I took some florist wire wrapped in Duck tape to use for hanging the wreath. You could just use the florist wire alone, though. This was an easy project to make and was a fun family craft. I foresee a Christmas Mickey Head wreath in our future!

This is one of the cutest July 4th wreaths I’ve seen. Would love if you came and shared this on the Merry Monday Linky Party.
