Well, I’m a day late for ABCs of Homeschooling. I’m not really surprised because of what happened yesterday. DS8 had a meltdown after his sister’s therapy appointment, and it really threw the rest of the afternoon off. So, this morning, I realized what probably added to DS8’s meltdown. He is really stuffed up and doesn’t seem to be feeling very well.
Because DS8 isn’t feeling good, we will have to try to get some school work in without overloading him, so I think we will plan field trip for the next couple of days. Of course, I am talking about “virtual” field trips.
A friend on Facebook shared a link for Plimoth Plantation Virtual Field Trips, so I think we might look at these today. We’ll also continue through our Thanksgiving unit study while sitting on the couch. I love to be able to still cover school work while the kids are sick, even though it might be different than what I had planned. Oh, the joys of homeschooling!
Tomorrow is our next live “virtual” field trip through Colonial Williamsburg. Dawn at The Momma Knows told me about Homeschool Buyers Co-op several months ago, and I am so thankful that she did. We were able to get in on a group buy for Colonial Williamsburg and are really enjoying this “virtual” field trip. Last month was our first live version. It was nice to be able to plug the laptop into the television and watch it on the big screen instead of crowding around the computer.
When your kids are sick, do you change up the type of school work? Or do you cancel school?

Wehavent done any official “virtual field trips” but I have heard good things about them. We do use the Internet for searching out things, but maybe I will look at the offerings at the HSBC. I love being able to keep some schooling going even when I or the kids are stuck on the couch. Great plan for a sick week!

Thank you for sharing the Virtual Field Trip with us. Think this will fill in nice next week. Depending on the sickness, our school is lots of reading and educational videos. Thank you for sharing!

Yes, we change things up, too. We haven’t done any virtual field trips, we typically turn on documentaries. 😉
