My family was given the opportunity to review Visual Latin. I wasn’t quite sure how this would work because of the fact that we were currently studying Spanish. Of course, we were studying Spanish over DD12’s protest because she wants to learn French.
When I received my download instructions, I went to the Visual Latin website and downloaded my lessons. {You can get 6 free trial lessons here.} I was given Lessons 1-10 for review, and I downloaded the free trial lessons to be able to see the 4 intro lessons. The first thing that really impressed me was that if you get the lessons by download, it includes iPod versions of the lessons for schooling on the run. This is a big plus for us; since, we are on the go quite frequently.
At this point, I was still remembering my year of Latin in high school. While I enjoyed the class as a high school student, it would have been SO dry for my elementary-aged children. How could anyone make it interesting for young kids?
After watching the first intro lesson, I could see why kids like it so much! My children have asked to watch Latin. Wow!
My kids like Visual Latin so much that we are thinking about postponing the Spanish so that we can do more Latin to get the foundation that will help both kids in vocabulary and other languages. Then, we will do Spanish for DS8 and French for DD12. In fact, Don will be joining us for Latin, so we will have classes in the evenings.
