190 foot cross at Groom, Texas
I was going to type about our homeschooling plans for this week, but I’m distracted. This is usually my time, but I still hear sounds from down the hall. Scraping sounds on a door frame. A leg ever so slightly placed outside a bedroom door. Hmmm. It’s after 10:30 pm. Will DS7 ever go to sleep? He is my night owl and early bird rolled into one.
This is my time to plan our Disney trip. Work on the kids’ journal pages for the trip. Plan science around rides in the park. Watch my shirts dry… Okay, so I don’t really watch them dry. The point is that this is my time to do what I want in peace and quiet.
Although, during my wait for him to finally wind down, I started reading the blog of someone whom I had never met, either in person or online. Joanne Heim, writer of http://www.thesimplewife.typepad.com/. I remember seeing someone tweet about prayer for her, so I took a look at her blog. Such a sad story!
Joanne’s story hits very close to home. Several years ago, I got a call saying that a relative of mine had had a stroke in her sleep. She was not that old, either. Unfortunately, there was too much time between when the stroke occurred and when she was found, but something stood out in my mind about my relative. She had been complaining about severe headaches for a couple of months before. I had encouraged her many times to see a doctor, but there was always some excuse. She didn’t have a history of migraines or other types of headaches, but if she had seen a doctor, she might still be with us today.
I want to reiterate that I don’t know Joanne or the circumstances behind what has happened to her, but I do want to encourage you to join me in praying for Joanne and her family. According to her blog, her two children have been homeschooled for the last year and a half. They are returning to school on Wednesday. Please pray that they will be well received! The family has set up a Paypal donation link on her blog to help defray expenses. For Twitter updates, follow her husband @tobenheim.
Thank you!

yes, I am praying for Joanne as well, and I saw the call to do so also on twitter. It shakes you up quite a bit when something like this hits someone young and is unexpected. Kind of makes us contemplate our own mortality.

It is such a jolt to see a story, such as Joanne’s. We’re praying for a miracle because that is what it will take! This is a wake-up call for us to hug our kids tight because we will never know when it is too late.
