“Finding Dory” – Dory is Still Swimming After All This Time!

FindingDoryLogoTemp_small450

In case you hadn’t noticed, we are BIG Disney/Pixar fans here!  Just about every movie is a favorite, and if you asked what our ultimate favorite is, we would have to just say, “All of them!”  So, we were happy with the great news, today, that the sequel to Finding Nemo is in the works.  While many of us diehard fans waited for a long time for this, I’m sure that it seemed like so much longer to Ellen DeGeneres (voice of Dory).

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” said DeGeneres. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating ‘Toy Story 16.’ But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

When I showed the kids about Finding Dory, they were jumping up-and-down.  While we have a long time to wait until it comes to theaters (November 25, 2015), I’m sure that there will be many trailers and teasers put out to make the wait more bearable.  To keep up with updates, you can follow Finding Dory on Facebook.

Brave Blu-Ray Combo Set {Review}

Brave is coming out on Blu-Ray on November 13, 2012.  I was fortunate to received an advance copy to review to be able to share my opinions with everyone.  It is no secret that my family liked this movie.  In fact, my husband says Brave is now his favorite Disney/Pixar film of all because of the beautiful animation.

I received the Ultimate Collector’s Edition set with Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray 3D, DVD, and Digital Copy.  Have I ever said how much I LOVE Digital Copy?  It is incredible to be able to have the movie on an iPad or iPhone!  And the cover art on the outer sleeve…  The lenticular picture of Merida…  The 3D picture just pops out!

Now, let’s move on to what is on the actual Blu-Ray discs.  I do not have 3D, yet, so I can’t comment on that, but I do usually purchase the packs with 3D in case I ever get a 3D set up.  The Blu-Ray disc 1 includes the La Luna short and The Legend of Mor’du Short.  It also includes Brave Old World that chronicles the production team’s exporation in Scotland.  {Yes, they tried Haggis…}  There are more shorts that show a little more depth about Merida, Elinor, the Bears, the Brawl in the Hall.  There is just so much to see and enjoy!

Then, on disc 2, there’s even more!  There’s an alternate opening, deleted scenes, and a COOL short about Dirty Hairy People.  And don’t miss the It is English…Sort of section that helps with interpretation of some of the lines in the movie.  There’s a short about the story behind The Tapestry.

My family really enjoyed all the extras in this collection!  In fact, I wasn’t home the day this arrived, and I was told later that my kids watched every single extra!  We have really enjoyed the Brave Ultimate Collector’s Edition!

Disclaimer:  I received a free copy for the purpose of this review.  I was not compensated in any other way, nor was I required to give a positive review.

What are “Will O’ the Wisps”?

I like to read about the thought that goes into the little details in the Disney/Pixar movies, so I was happy to receive some information about the “Will O’ the Wisps”.  I hadn’t heard of them before seeing clips from the movie, Brave, but I found the background to be very interesting.

THE LORE
WILL O’ THE WISPS

Travelers—particularly those who venture out after sunset on unfamiliar pathways—beware of the will o’ the wisps.

It is said—though by whom is a bit of a mystery—that on certain days for certain travelers in certain parts of the world, little lights dance on the horizon, whispering tempting invitations… pledging the answers to lifelong questions, the realization of dreams, a key to secret treasures—a change of fate.

Charmed and curious, unsuspecting travelers follow the floating lights, mesmerized by their whispers, their promises. Yet no matter how long or how fervently they follow, they never quite touch the beautiful beacons whose flickering lights eventually fade and disappear… leaving the inquisitors, the dreamers and the treasure seekers lost… and alone.
* * *

In “Brave,” Merida spies tiny blue lights after escaping into the forest in search of a change of fate. Forming a path that dares her to follow, the lights lead Merida to a mysterious location that holds the power to change her destiny—just not in the way she imagines.

“The will o’ the wisps are in a lot of Scottish folktales,” says “Brave” director Mark Andrews. “They were said to lead you to treasure or doom—to change your fate—but they’re an actual phenomenon of swamp and bog gas seeping up through the earth and interacting with the natural resources to create the blue flames. People would follow these lights thinking they were little fairies, and basically drown or get sucked down into the bogs.

“We made the wisps like actual little spirits,” Andrews continues. “They’re almost like Marley’s ghost in a way, because Marley’s ghost isn’t an evil spirit—even though he’s frightening, he’s trying to warn Ebenezer to change his ways. That’s what the wisps are doing. There’s a duality to them, because they’re either good or evil—they lead Merida into more and more trouble, but in the end, they’ve led her exactly where she needs to go.”

Brave is Stunning!

The kids and I have been watching the clips of Brave as they have been released.  The kids watched them over and over again and enjoyed every one.  As we enjoyed them, I would see people online saying how the movie had been ruined.  That they now felt as if they had seen the movie already; however, like in UP, Disney Pixar knew EXACTLY what they were doing.  The clips did not give away the movie and only served to tantalize.

The animation in Brave is just spectacular!  It made me feel as if I were on top of the rock formation right alongside Merida, drinking from the waterfall.  The Scottish countryside seemed to come alive as Merida flew through the woods on her horse.  It really is amazing how far animation has come!

Don’t take my word for how great Brave is!  I’ll let you read what my daughter has to say about it.

A Movie to Leave You Amazed

Would you ever want your mother to change?  That’s what Merida wanted in the newest Disney/Pixar movie, Brave.

Merida is a good archer and a princess in the Highlands of Scotland.  Her mother, Queen Elinor, wants her to get married to one of the competitors in the ancient Highland games, but Merida wants to stay single.  After a fight with her mother, Merida rides her horse, Angus, away from the castle to the standing stones. From there the will’o the wisps lead Merida to a witch’s cottage where she wishes for a spell to change her mother.  But, how will she be changed?  You’ll have to see the movie to find out what happens.

I though this movie was incredible.  One thing I like is that the story is cool. It was so magical.  I also think that the characters are interesting. The details on their clothes, for example, are amazing.  Finally, the movie is comical. There were scenes that will have you rolling on the floor laughing.

If you are an adventure lover, a magical person, a Scotsman, or none of the above, Brave will leave you amazed.

When DD12 says that this movie is funny, she is not kidding!  DS9 was laughing hysterically at some of the triplets’ antics!

You might wonder about the “short”…  While we waited for everyone to find a seat, DS9 asked me if there was going to be a “short”.  I was surprised that it seemed so important to him.  As the “short” began, we sat back and watched what, in my opinion, is the best Disney Pixar “short” yet.  I’m not sure that I could really describe it with the detail that it deserves, so I will just say that it is certainly a MUST see!

Are You Brave Enough?

Are you Brave enough?  Well, I know a few Scotsmen who are…

I just have to share this clip with you because the first time I saw it, I laughed my head off!  Not only did I laugh, but my phone was ripped out of my hands, so both the kids could fight over who would see the clip next.  I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
