A little while back, I received these Woolzies Dryer Balls to try out. Woolzies are handmade from 100% New Zealand wool. Basically, Woolzies are supposed to replace fabric softener, and this can help you save money and avoid the chemicals of fabric softener. Woolzies are supposed to cut drying time by 25%, soften laundry, and help reduce static and wrinkles. Woolzies (6 XL balls) can be purchased for $34.95 with FREE shipping in the USA and are guaranteed to work for 1000 uses.
I really wanted to try Woolzies because DS9 and I have sensitive skin. We have to use the unscented dryer sheets, so I was interested in trying an all natural softener method. The first time we used them, I noticed that it was quiet. However, when the clothes came out of the dryer, they were full of static. At that point, we read everything in and on the box and found the answer in the green box of the picture above. It says that you can reduce static cling by adding a ball of aluminum foil into the dryer with the Woolzies. We did this, and things were no longer quiet. But, the static was lessened. We continued using the Woolzies with aluminum and found that we needed to change out the ball of aluminum foil about every 2-3 weeks. The addition of aluminum foil definitely adds to the cost of the Woolzies.
I do want to point out that this is the Winter, and it is extremely dry where I live. I really think that Woolzies, without aluminum foil, would probably work much better in a more humid area where serious static is not a huge problem. I do think that Woolzies are a great product, but I don’t think that it is viable for us at this point of the year. I have set my Woolzies aside until Spring when the humidity will come back. I think they will work much better then.
If you have a cat, make sure that you keep an eye on it when the dryer door is open with the Woolzies inside. Our cat came really close to climbing in the dryer to play with the Woolzies.
As I said earlier, I do believe that Woolzies is a good product under certain conditions, but it needs the help of aluminum foil if the humidity is low. It is definitely a good way to avoid the chemicals of fabric softener.
Now, I get to give away a box of Woolzies like what I got to one of my readers! Would you like to win? Read the rules below and enter on the Rafflecopter widget.

I only ever use wool balls in the dryer though I have not had Woolzies brand. In fact my current ones are sort of falling apart (note: they are NOT Woolzies) and I suspect them of being a bit inferior. I hate dryer sheets with that horrible smell and those chemicals; wool balls are the thing!
