January 22, 2013 is a very important day. Why? It is the day that Etched… Upon My Heart: What We Learn and Why We Never Forget is being released.
How do I describe this book? Reading this book is like sitting in a family room with the author listening to her open up about her life. The ups and downs of her life… The joys and sorrows… But most importantly, how God came into her life and eased her pain.
What I find so striking about this book is how it seems that Jill is trying to reach out to the reader. She is trying to help us by using her pain and the redemption she found to inspire others. At the end of each section, she leaves the reader (me, in this case) with things to remember, followed by prayer and truths to “Etch Upon Your Heart”. One of the things that she said at the end of the “Suffering” section is so beautiful: “God will redeem our tears, allowing light and life to flow out of suffering and darkness.”
She is not “preaching” doctrine in this book. She is sharing how the scripture has touched her and how she interprets the scripture. What it means to her…
This book goes through many of the stages of life that we all will experience: love, significance, forgiveness, suffering, giving, prayer, faithfulness, and death. Along the way, Jill shares her experiences with each and how God led her through.
