This is the first ever International Homeschool Spirit Week! Are you ready for it? Each day has its own theme, and today’s theme is “Homeschool Away from Home Day”.
We LOVE to learn away from home! However, because of DS9’s heat-intolerance, we “Homeschool Away from Home” when the weather is cooler. So, in a few weeks, we will be hitting some of the area learning opportunities.
Over the past few years, we have been fortunate to see many things from…
the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO to…
the Queen Mary and crawling through the Scorpion submarine docked nearby. While we have traveled for vacation and moved for jobs that enabled us to see things that we might not have seen otherwise, homeschoolers don’t have to go far for learning potential.
We can see wildlife in its natural environment while out on a nature hike,
or we can take advantage of local and somewhat local museums that offer hands-on science.
I already have a list of places that we want to visit for our “Homeschool Away from Home” learning after the weather gets cooler. Since our latest move, we have a new Native American tribe to learn about. We enjoyed learning about the Hopi and Navajo when we lived in Arizona, so we are anxious to get to the cultural center for our local tribe.
While many of us plan “Field Trips” for our time away from home, learning can be as simple as a trip to the grocery store to learn about ingredients, healthy choices, and money. What are you planning for your next “Homeschool Away from Home” event?
