I hope that everyone had a great holiday weekend! We could have made it a 4-day weekend if Don hadn’t been scheduled to work. Add Canada Day on Friday to the 4th of July on Monday, and we could have had a very long celebration. Alas, he had to work.
Here we are on the letter “M” this week with Dawn at 5 Kids and a Dog. I asked the family what “M” word would work for this week, and I quickly heard Memories and Make. So, we have Makin’ Memories!
We can look at this a couple of different ways. We, as a homeschooling family, are making memories. Memories of multiplication and division facts. Memories of punctuation. Memories of historical facts and scientific principles.
However, we can also look at it in a more Disney fashion. You knew this was coming, didn’t you? I’m not just talking about Disney trips, though. On one of my Disney CDs, I have a song called Makin’ Memories. Here are a few of the lines.
Making memories, making memories
Taking pictures is making memories
Catching little pieces of time
Making them yours, making them mine
Great vacations and celebrations
Can fade away in a year
But when we’re making memories
Happy days are always here
Memories are what we are making together when we watch that history lesson in bed or do school work in our pajamas. Memories are made when we play games by lantern light just because. Memories are made when we are able to spend that extra time together spraying each other with the garden hose because it is that hot. {I may have to take my camera out for the next garden hose event.} This afternoon, DS8 asked me, “Mom, will you always remember…” Yes, I will remember because we are making those memories together. Memories that will never fade away!

Making memories is truly at the heart of homeschooling. I think of all the times that my daughters and I have shared, and things that we have learned together. All those times would have been missed if they were weren’t homeschooled. Enjoyed reading your post!

Thank you, Ann! I will always look back and cherish the times that we have had together as a homeschooling family.

I will always have memories of my son learning about homophones while playing the accordion! Memories ARE at the heart of it.
Naomi says
I bet you do have great memories of homophones and the accordion!

Love your word. I would agree with you and the previous comments. Hourray for homeschooling because of all the memories it creates!
Naomi says
Thanks, Joelle! We have such a huge opportunity for memories and fun when we homeschool!

I love this! I got teary eyed reading it (darn hormones!) My kids are growing so fast but in the meantime we’re making memories. =)
Naomi says
Amber, I’m glad you enjoyed it (through the tears). We only get the one shot at memories, don’t we?
